Optimal Therapy- A Bright Spot in Bleak Times

By Paige G, Front office Coordinator

During these strange times of face masks, quarantine, and social distancing, it can be difficult for many of us to try to navigate our way back to normality. We miss our friends and family members as well as the joy and closeness that comes with spending quality, face-to-face time with other people.

On top of that, there are many who are struggling with painful symptoms from an injury, accident, essential surgery, or a chronic diagnosis. Not only is this a difficult time to try to manage physical pain, but dealing with the feelings of loneliness and isolation that often come with limited social interaction can certainly take a toll on our mental and emotional health as well.

I have noticed that physical therapy has been a bright spot in a bleak time for so many of you. The atmosphere in our clinic is positive and uplifting; it has provided a way for people to get the physical help that they need while also being able to have safe interactions and conversations with other patients and staff.

As a front office coordinator, one of the best parts of my job is getting to have weekly conversations with our patients. Over the last couple of months, these are just some of the comments I have been told when patients are leaving the clinic at the end of their appointment:

  • “It was a lot of fun back there!”
  • “I’m so glad you guys stayed open during all of this!”
  • “Coming to physical therapy is the highlight of my week!”

It has been so inspiring to see our patients feeling better and leaving with a smile on their faces, knowing that they look forward to their visits with us. And while we love to be able to provide this necessary service to our patients during such a challenging time, we also understand the importance of being safe and smart. By screening each person when they enter the clinic, wearing masks, sanitizing equipment, and practicing social distancing, our patients are able to feel at ease when they walk through our doors.

Through all of this, our patients have been the ones who kept us going and kept our spirits up as well. As much as they enjoy coming to physical therapy, we love seeing them on a regular basis and watching the progress they make each and every week. By taking this one day at a time, together we will find ourselves back on the path to normalcy and stronger because we helped each other through it all!
